Why Are American Cars Not As Quality Built like Japanese?

Tho on average the Japanese have higher build quality, recently Ford has proven to have higher quality than Toyota or Honda. The reason for the difference is cost. Cars built in America are built by higher paid workers, so in order to keep the prices competitive they have to use inferior materials where as the Japanese pay their workers next to nothing and can afford better quality parts.
