Why don't east indians get records deals with big labels in USA or Canada?

I'm white but my best friend is East Indian and her daughter has a great voice(she's been told two octaves higher than usual). My best friend has got her daughter into singing lessons, but the cost is so very high and my friend wonders if pursuing this is even worth it for her daughter, who dreams of being a performer one day. I tell her if her daughter wants to sing, let her go for it, but my friend is scared her daughter will see the west for what it is and her thought of other people may damage her in the long run. Is it even worth her helping her daughter pursue a singing career or should they just leave this alone? Thanks for all answers.
