Can/Should my band have a rider?

I know that big-time rock stars and musicians have riders that not only specify technical requirements, but all of the little (or extravagant) extras they want backstage. My rock band is going to set out on a self-promoted tour next summer, and we're working on a stage plot and input list, but I'm wondering how appropriate it would be to add requirements like "must have 2 separate 20 amp circuits", stage must be X by X feet dimensions, and "bottled water and food provided." What is the threshold for a group or artist to make those kinds of requests? They don't seem unreasonable to me, however, I'm worried it might be enough for the venue to laugh at us. We're trying to move on from playing bars and moving more into actual music venues. What do you think? Is it an unspoken rule that if you don't have a major label record deal, you get what you get?
